Beth knows some really nice people in the campground who happen to own a pontoon boat. Randy and Gail invited Beth, Jean, and I to go with them tonight to see the "bat cave."
Sounded like an adventure to all of us. Jean, Beth, Liz
The boat went really fast and everyone had horizontal hair.
We had some time before the bats come out, so they took us down to see the Guntersville Dam.View looking below the dam and the locks.
Approaching the area of the bat cave in those cliffs. Other boats are waiting.
Some holes in the cliffs....maybe some bats come from those.
The sign by the main cave tells us this is a Gray Bat Sanctuary.
The bat cave with fence to keep people out.
The bats don't come out until dark, so we watched another beautiful sunset while we waited. The bats begin to come out about 8 p.m. They are too fast to get a still photo, but there were hundreds of them emerging in waves.
You can watch them too. Click on the video:
Here's a link to facts about gray bats. They are an endangered species.
Awesome sunset. Don't you just love meeting new friends with a pontoon boat? Looks like a great evening.
